CHC33021 - Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Disability)

Keysborough Learning Centre offers students the opportunity to complete units of competency so that students can obtain the Ageing specialisation and the Disability specialisation. 

Students opting to complete this course will complete 15 units of competency (including 9 core and 6 electives)

Work placement

To achieve this qualification, a student must complete a minimum of 140 hours of work placement.

There are no formal pre-requisites to undertake this course, however prospective students must be:

•  Over 18 years of age

•  Prepared to undergo LLN test if needed

•  In possession of a valid Police Check

•  Prepared to get the flu and COVID 19 vaccine

• Prepared to work for  both male and female clients/residents

Prior to enrolment to the course all students undergo a Pre-Training Review (PTR) process including an interview to ascertain student’s aspirations and the suitability of the course they wish to enrol in.  An initial LLND assessment using PRIAK mapped against ACSF outcomes will decide which group the student is placed. (In some cases students’ previous academic achievement can replace the LLND assessment).

Once all applications are assessed, an Individual Training Plan (ITP) is developed for each student identifying what additional courses and programs students may undertake as part of the Supported Pathway Program. These may include additional Vocational English lessons, Digital Literacy programs and assessment support as identified. In some cases, or groups and alternative mode of delivery and assessment can be adopted as specified in the Training and Assessment Strategy for that intake, such as verbal assessment, multiple choice tests for knowledge evidence or technology assisted face-to-face delivery over Zoom when needed.

For this reason, some groups with more independent learners who have higher LLN skills may be in a position to finish their training in 7-8 months, while other groups may get additional time to complete their assessment and work placement up to a maximum of 12 months.

A 140 hour work placement forms a part of the program , which can be done at the end of the course in one block and divided between aged care and disability streams. Enrolled students who show adequate progress in their study will be guaranteed to have access to a work placement provided they meet the criteria below:

• Fully complete their course with a minimum 80% attendance rate

• Complete all the assessments related to theoretical training

• Complete all the Supported Pathway courses agreed upon in their

• Individual Training Plan (English for Aged care, Computer Beginner and/or Work ready programs)
